Everything on carbon credits, eligibility, data privacy, and revenue share, for rooftop solar owners and EPC partners alike.

Overview

  • A carbon credit is a verified certificate representing 1 tonne of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) that has been reduced, removed, or avoided from entering the atmosphere. Under India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), Carbon Credit Certificates (CCCs) are issued by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and registered on the national carbon registry, making them tradable instruments.
  • Yes. The Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) is legislated under the Energy Conservation Act 2001, as amended by the Indian Parliament in 2022. It is administered by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power.
  • The CCTS framework includes a defined role for private entities acting as project developers, aggregating distributed assets that would otherwise be too small to access the carbon market independently. The government sets the rules, establishes the approved methodologies, accredits the verification agencies, and operates the registry. NaviRex is registered under CCTS as an eligible entity, and in that capacity aggregates small distributed solar systems, collects and validates generation data, prepares all required documentation, engages accredited verification agencies, and manages registry submissions on your behalf.

A single rooftop system cannot access the carbon market on its own — the documentation and verification costs alone would far exceed the credits earned. NaviRex makes participation viable by pooling many systems together.

The generation data we collect is independently verified by an accredited third-party verification agency appointed under CCTS, ensuring the credits you earn meet the scheme's integrity standards.

NaviRex's carbon project is formally registered under CCTS (Registration ID NOE-25-0038).

  • NaviRex is currently in pre-launch. The Indian Carbon Market Portal was officially launched in March 2026, and the government has indicated that formal credit trading is expected to commence by mid-2026. No carbon credits have been issued or traded yet under the scheme.

In the meantime, NaviRex is actively onboarding EPC partners and hybrid rooftop solar owners, registering their assets under the project, and collecting verified generation data through the NaviTrace platform, so that every enrolled participant has a complete, audited generation record ready the moment the market opens.

NaviRex earns a service fee deducted from carbon credit revenue at the point of sale. We bear all costs of platform setup, data collection, project documentation, third-party verification, and registry registration: there is no upfront charge to you at any stage. Our fee is 40% of the credit revenue generated by your system, and we earn only when you do.

  • Under the CCTS Offset Mechanism, Carbon Credit Certificates (CCCs) generated by your system are aggregated by NaviRex and sold on your behalf through India's designated carbon trading infrastructure, under CERC oversight.

Offset credits are purchased by companies seeking to voluntarily reduce or compensate for their carbon footprint, typically large industrial firms in sectors such as steel, cement, and aluminium, driven by ESG commitments, investor requirements, or sustainability targets. As India's carbon market matures and compliance obligations tighten, demand for verified offset credits from domestic sources is expected to grow.

NaviRex manages the entire process from verification to sale. Once credits are sold, your share of the revenue is transferred to your registered account. You do not need to interact with any buyer or manage any paperwork.

Eligibility & enrolment

  • To be eligible for NaviRex's programme under CCTS:

    • Your system must be a hybrid rooftop solar photovoltaic installation, grid-connected with a metering arrangement that records export to the grid.
    • It must be installed in Kerala. This reflects NaviRex's current registered project scope, not a limitation of the CCTS framework itself.
    • The system must be operational and generating electricity.
    • Systems commissioned from January 2025 onwards are eligible under NaviRex's current registered project.

Receiving a subsidy, such as PM Surya Ghar or any state-level solar subsidy, does not affect eligibility. Subsidies cover equipment cost; carbon credits arise from the clean electricity generated on an ongoing basis. There is no provision in the Energy Conservation Act, the CCTS framework, or the BM EN01.001 methodology that excludes subsidised systems from credit eligibility or that transfers carbon rights to the subsidy provider.

  • It's simple. Fill out the enquiry form on our contact page and the NaviRex team will take care of the rest. There is nothing to set up yourself and no upfront cost at any stage.
  • Once you submit your enquiry, the NaviRex team will reach out to you directly to guide you through the next steps. The enrolment process is straightforward and typically completed within one working day.
  • Yes. Each system is registered individually under NaviRex's grouped project, so two systems at two different addresses both qualify. Each one is monitored and credited independently, and earnings from each system are tracked and paid separately.

Data privacy

  • At enrolment, NaviRex collects your basic consumer details, installation address, inverter capacity, commissioning date, and supporting documents including your installation invoice and latest electricity bill, through the NaviTrace digital platform. You also have the option to connect your inverter for automated generation monitoring, which enables more accurate credit calculation and faster verification.

All data is securely stored on encrypted cloud infrastructure in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (India).

Your data is used for: carbon credit measurement, reporting, and verification under CCTS; improvement of the NaviTrace platform and its energy analytics capabilities; and, in aggregated and anonymised form, for energy research and grid analytics that support the broader clean energy transition. Individual identified data is never sold to third parties. Data is shared with accredited verification bodies only to the extent required for CCTS compliance.

  • No. Participating in NaviRex's carbon credit programme has no physical impact on your solar system. NaviRex collects generation data digitally through your existing inverter: no new hardware is installed, and no modification is made to your panels, inverter, or any component covered by your manufacturer warranty. Your system performs exactly as it would without NaviRex. Your installer's workmanship warranty and your panel manufacturer's performance warranty are completely unaffected.
  • No, you do not need to contact KSEB. Your existing net metering arrangement continues exactly as it is, unchanged. NaviRex works with your inverter's generation data directly. The carbon credit programme runs alongside your net metering arrangement, not through it. KSEB is not a party to the programme and has no involvement in the carbon credit process.
  • No. This concern conflates two separate things: electricity export and carbon rights.

When you export surplus electricity to KSEB through net metering, you are selling them electrical energy. That transaction is complete at the point of energy transfer, and KSEB compensates you through adjustment against your electricity bill.

Carbon rights are an entirely separate legal construct. They arise from the act of generating clean electricity at your rooftop, which displaces fossil-fuel-based generation in the grid and thereby avoids emissions at the grid level. KSEB has no contractual clause in the standard net metering agreement, no regulatory provision, and no legal basis under the CCTS framework to claim the carbon rights arising from your rooftop generation.

  • The Carbon Rights Agreement is a formal document between you and NaviRex covering:

    • Authorisation for NaviRex to act as project developer for your solar asset under CCTS.
    • The revenue-sharing arrangement between you and NaviRex.
    • The term of the agreement and renewal conditions.
    • What data NaviRex collects and how it is used.
    • Exit conditions and what happens to credits already earned.

It does not transfer ownership of your solar system. Your system remains entirely yours. You retain full control over your installation, how you use your electricity, and your property. NaviRex is granted only a specific, limited right to register, verify, and sell the carbon credits arising from your system's generation.

You will receive the full agreement to review before signing, and you are welcome to seek independent legal advice prior to doing so.

  • Yes, you can exit. The Carbon Rights Agreement has a defined exit process with a notice period. Credits that have already been verified and issued remain valid, and any revenue already accrued is unaffected. Credits pending verification at the time of exit will be handled as specified in the agreement. NaviRex does not impose financial penalties on participants who exit in good faith following the agreed notice period. For the specific notice period and exit conditions applicable to your agreement, speak to us directly before signing.
  • Your generation data — the output records used to issue and verify credits already earned — must be retained for a defined audit period under the CCTS verification framework. Verified credits carry an audit-trail requirement that cannot be waived unilaterally. Once that retention period expires, that data is also deleted.
  • Renting:if you rent your property, your solar system's ownership does not change, so your Carbon Rights Agreement remains fully in place and is unaffected.

Selling: if you sell the property, you have three options. The agreement can transfer to the new owner if they consent and NaviRex agrees. Alternatively, you can exit the agreement under the exit provisions before or at the time of sale. Any credits already earned and revenue already accrued remain yours and are unaffected by the property transaction.

We recommend notifying NaviRex at the earliest opportunity if you are considering a sale, so we can guide you through the smoothest path.

Revenue & earnings

  • There are no upfront costs. NaviRex covers platform setup, data collection infrastructure, project documentation, third-party verification fees, and registry registration. NaviRex retains 40% of credit proceeds as a service fee, which is deducted from carbon credit revenue before your share is paid to you. You never receive a bill from NaviRex.
  • Carbon credit projects under CCTS operate on a crediting period of 10 years. When you enrol, you are committing to a minimum term as specified in your Carbon Rights Agreement.

There is no immediate cash payment. Carbon credits cannot be issued until the CCTS registry is operational (expected late 2026) and until a full verification cycle is completed. However, what begins immediately is that your system is registered on the NaviRex platform, generation data collection starts from day one, and your dashboard shows your accumulating carbon avoidance in real time. This data builds the verified record that converts into credits once the market opens. Once credits for a crediting cycle are verified and sold, your share is transferred to your registered account within 90 days.

  • There is no minimum holding amount. Once your credits for a crediting cycle are verified and sold, your share of the proceeds is transferred to your registered account within 90 days.

Risk & programme viability

  • It affects how much you earn, not whether you earn. Solar generation in Kerala is lower during heavy monsoon months and higher in summer. Since credits are calculated on actual verified generation data, a lower-output month produces fewer credits and a higher-output month produces more.

In practice, credits are aggregated and verified periodically, so seasonal highs and lows are combined into a single annual credit figure. There is no penalty for months with low generation — your credits simply reflect what your system actually produced.

  • If the inverter is offline temporarily, NaviRex simply records zero or reduced generation for that period. Credits are only calculated on actual verified output, so a broken inverter means fewer credits for that period. When a new inverter is installed, the system details on the NaviRex platform are updated accordingly.
  • NaviRex India Pvt Ltd is a registered company in Kerala (CIN: U62011KL2025PTC095943), and NaviRex's carbon project is officially registered under CCTS (Registration ID NOE-25-0038). NaviRex is supported by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and MG University.

Under the Carbon Rights Agreement, participants assign their carbon rights to NaviRex for the term of the agreement. NaviRex registers, verifies, and sells credits on your behalf and remits your revenue share upon sale.

In the event of NaviRex shutting down, credits already sold and revenue already remitted to you are unaffected. Credits pending verification or sale at the time of shutdown would form part of NaviRex's obligations under any insolvency process, and participants would be treated as creditors for unpaid revenue shares according to Indian legal provisions.
